About Nora ▾
Nora Castellanos founded Hearth & Field six years ago with a carbon-steel skillet she could not find anywhere else. The company makes cast-iron and carbon-steel cookware in a leased foundry space outside Pittsburgh, sells online and through one flagship showroom in Brooklyn, and is opening a second showroom in Chicago this December. Forty people: fourteen in the foundry and finishing, nine in customer experience and the showroom, six in product and design, five in sales and wholesale, four in finance and operations, two in marketing. Revenue last year was 9.4 million; this year depends on a fall purchase order from a national retailer, and the buyer is Kwame. The company raised one outside round three years ago. Dan led it and sits on the three-person board with Nora and an independent director. Nora is in the Brooklyn office Tuesday to Thursday, at the foundry every other Monday, and home on Friday. A good week is one where decisions got made and nobody was surprised.
